After spending a few hours taking new pictures and video, editing them, and getting them perfect, you’re probably really excited to share them with your audience. With all that hard work you just put in, who wouldn’t be?! Well, put that Red Bull down, look at your clock, realize that it’s 3AM, and that your target audience is probably asleep (and you should be too)!
Unless you have a really interesting group of fans, most people are unable to buy content while they are asleep. Our goal is to do some research, take note of when our targeted audience is awake, and find ways to post the new content that we create when it is going to get the most viewers. By doing this, it provides the best opportunity to monetize new content.
To start, let’s take a look at Reddit. Go visit a few subreddits where you post content, and take a look to the left. There should be something that states how many people are members of that subreddit and how many of them are online. Make a note of this for multiple different subreddits, then wait a few hours and check again. If you do this a few times a day for a week, you will gain tons of information and insight as to when people are most active in each subreddit where you share your content! If you’re using a spreadsheet, you can even color code each block so it’s easier for you to view in the future.
While you’re on Reddit, another thing to check is how many new posts are being submitted to the subreddit you plan to post your content to. If you go to the “new” section, you can see how many new posts are being made. Take a sample and see how many posts were made in the last fifteen minutes, then do this later in the day. Log this information and gather some data.
Once you have both of these bits of data, try to find when the most people are online and least amount of people are posting. By doing this, you have a much higher chance of your content being upvoted and seen by more people.
While this provides you information on when the best time to post is, also make sure your content is in line with what people want to see. Go back to your targeted subreddits, sort by “top this week” and “top this month” and see if you can notice a pattern to what people are upvoting. If you have any new content that you’re looking to promote that fits with what people are upvoting, this is another item that will help raise your post to the top!
